If I burn alive, does that mean I survive?  Or do I eventually die?

Either way, I'd probably say drowning.  I've always wanted to know what it'd be like to drown.

(Besides, Poisedon can beat the crap out of Prometheus. I'm going to assume its a person setting me on fire, not Zeus.
I know what it was. IT WAS THAT GREEK SALAD. CHRIST.)

These are two of the worst ways to die.  Maybe burning alive would be worse, but then again drowning is insanely painful.

How about, I get set on fire then immediately thrown in water?

I think being burned alive would be much worse, and definitely much more painful.  Unless, of course, you were dipped in molten metal and you instantly vaporized.

With drowning you'd struggle until you went unconscious, then you'd die while you were knocked out, so it probably wouldn't be as bad as you think.

Yeah, it still wouldn't be good.  I'd rather die of old age!

At least it's not as painful.

Still it was not an option, therefore you lose. Now you will be tossed into a pool and while you are freaking out at the bottom of the pool, someone will light the surface on fire. So now you have to swim around looking for a spot with no fire. But when you put your head out a really big guy will just punch you in the face. "get back in the firey water!! you don't come out of the firey water!! Get some fire over here!!" <ahem> ok, so enough of my Dane cook quotes. Next up:

Oh, the extravagant way of course.  Filthy rich, smoking a hookah, on a gold bed, surrounded by servants with fans and grapes.  One of them just strangled you with its chains, of course, but still...what a way to go.

If I had to choose a way to die it would probably be through nitrogen asphyxiation.  This is when you breathe in nothing but nitrogen and you die from having too little oxygen.  The thing is, since 70% of the atmosphere is made of nitrogen, breathing the stuff in doesn't cause any kind of pain or anything, your body does it all the time.  You just end up passing out and dying.  You don't even realize anything is wrong with you or anything, you just black out.
