Ok, knowing that the rest of the forum, (including myself) is illiterate, I shall try my best to explain prose. From what I have come to understand, it is very hard to differentiate from prose and poem.  In fact, everyone seems to dissagree with what prose really is,i say, with benj's permission we just try to wing it. write a sentence each, that has something to do with the last, and you may rhyme, but it's not necessary. Benj if you have any thoughts on the matter add them and they shall be added to the guidelines for this thread.

A great cloud hung over the once happy land of New Thingtown, raining despair on all who braved the wind that screamed at them when they walked its streets.

The distinction between prose and poem is not frequently debated (outside the RAS forum, anyway).  It should be rather clear cut.  Here, I'll help you out:

Prose -- 1. The ordinary language of men in speaking or writing; language not cast in poetical measure or rhythm; -- contradistinguished from verse, or metrical composition.

There ya go.  Prose is what I am writing right now.  It is what humans speak and write 99% of the time in all the books, newspapers, and magazines that we read.  It is, essentially, anything other than poetry, which is written in verse form.

So, by starting a prose thread, I mean to start a storytelling thread in which each person writes a sentence or two to continue on the story.  Sorry for not being more specific.  It's my fault.

Having that out of the way, I'll continue on Doraemon's story.

The cloud was made of an inferior type of vinyl, the kind that sticks to your buttcheeks after sitting for hours in the hot sun.

(Honestly benj, I looked it up, talked to a bunch of people, and still was confused, no one gave me a clear answer other than, anything thats not poem is prose, theres even something called prose poem. So really the problem lied in what your personal definition of prose was. and I do think people disagree with what it is. At least from what ive seen. But as I said I am illiterate.)

Everybody knew that the nearest monkeys to New Thingtown always brought bad luck wherever they went.

Legends were passed down from generation to generation about a hero wearing nothing but a sequin banana skin who would emerge from the sky in an heroically sexy manor to save all the helpless town folk.

There was only one (three, actually, but the other two should never be mentioned EVER again) way to stop them.

By helping old ladies accross the street and surrounding the world with love. That, and watching the movie "Amelie" 5 times a day (or The Wizard of Oz 10 times a day) without letting out any cynical remarks about how it's too happy.  Unfortunately, the old ladies of New Thingtown smelt strange and didn't make sense. And Amelie was only available on DVD - and not the special edition either - just the standard one with no special features, which did not represent good value for money. And lets face it The Wizard of Oz doesn't look that great by todays standards.

Luckily, contrary to the beliefs of some misguided individuals, there was many a legend of another way...
