Here's the idea. Post the tracklisting(s) of any compilations you've made. Made for your own use out of songs you own anyway of course.

I'll start the ball shouting. Recently I set out to make the most interesting, eclectic album I could, thus giving me the opportunity to show off. The first two are gypsy music. Track two is only available in Hungary which, obviously, means I rule. Nah, acctually it's a bit too mainstream - Parno Grazst is, after all, the most popular gypsy band in Hungary. oh well. Anyway the reason for the gypsy music is that I formed the compilation loosely around a story:

*Ahem*

[This record tells] the story of a gypsy woman's pet moggie who stumbles his way through a dustwept beatnik afterlife, and all the people he meets there before returning to home to a dying old lady.

1. Shukar Collective - Taraf
2. Parno Grazt - Khodi Mange/Nekem
3. Glen Campbell -Wichita Lineman
4. Deerhoof - Spiral Golden Town
5. Nik Kershaw - The Riddle
6. Suzanne Vega - The Queen and the Soldier
7. The Legendary Pink Dots - Sabres at Dawn
8. Yat-Kha - Eki Attar
9. Toshiyuki Honda - El Bombero
10. They Might Be Giants - Dead
11. John Cale - Paris, 1919
12. Tom Ovans - Killing Me
13. Giant Sand - Remote
14. Johnny Cash - In My Life
15. Bob Dylan & Allen Ginsberg - Airplane Blues 2
16. John Prine - Common Sense
17. Love Kit - Dandelion/Victorian Motorhome
18. Fantastic Plastic Machine - Allen Ginsberg
19. Spike Milligan - Q5 Piano Tune
(the sound effect of a fan being switched on and off)
20. Dory Previn - Mythical Kings and Iguanas
21. Larry John Wilson - Sheldon Church Yard
22. Cat Stevens - Can't Keep It In
23. Eels - Dusk: A Peach in the Orchard

CROISSANTS ARE RECOMMENDED FOR THIS RECORDING

Have we done this thread before? It seems so obvious.
I may as well die. And then maybe slit my wrists, like I can be bothered

Believe it or not, I've never been a fan of mix tapes or compilation albums (with different artists on them, anyway).  I'm more of an album purist at heart, and I like to listen to the songs as they were presented in the order they were presented.  Oh well.  Maybe someone else can post a list.

Benj

P.S. The album that John Prine's "Common Sense" song is on, "Common Sense," is one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time.  It's also probably the album I've listened to most times all the way through.  Another favorite of mine recently is Weezer's green album.

Here's one that I compiled for my brother, who is into art and is currently living in the middle of nowhere with a limited CD collection. All the song's correlate to art in some way. If you manage to get hold of these songs and put them in this order, you'll see that this really works quite well as album...

01. The Dandy Warhols – Bohemian like You
02. Talking Heads – Artists Only
03. Of Montreal – Art Snob Solutions
04. They Might Be Giants – Experimental Film
05. DAT Politics – Turn My Brain Off
06. They Might Be Giants – Meet James Ensor
07. Captain Beefheart – Run Paint Run Run
08. Status Quo – Pictures of Matchstick Men
09. Aesop Rock – No Regrets
10. Rolling Stones – Paint it Black
11. Kirsty McColl – Still Life
12. The Kinks – Picture Book
13. The Incredible String Band – Painting Box
14. Barclay James Harvest – Pools of Blue
15. Broadcast – Colour Me In
16. The Gerbils – Crayon Box
17. George – Sunday Painter
18. Squarepusher – Iambic 9 Poetry
19. David Bowie – Rock ‘N’ Roll Suicide
20. Daniel Johnston – Frustrated Artist
21. The Beatles - Paperback Writer
22. Rolf Harris – One Hand in My Pocket

Ok, so I have nothing substantive to add to the conversation.
