As perhaps a conversation starter, I'd like to say that I think the iTunes Music Store is pretty awesome.  It's available for Windows now too.  Check it out.  Does anyone else ever buy and download music online?  If so, do you use the iTunes store or another one?

It isn't worth it to me.  Maybe if they set it up so it would be easier to find what you're looking for.  Basically, these stores are only good if you know what you want - i.e., I want to buy some Smashing Pumpkins music.  For looking for something new, which is the only reason I'd go to these stores for music, they're god-awful.  Try looking for some new Indie music on iTunes.  Or an alternative local band - or even a modestly popular big label band which you've never heard of before.  What they need is a deal like Amazon or Tivo, where the site recommends music you might enjoy based on passed music purchased or an optional survey about your music tastes you can take when you first sign up.  Once they implement a similar system, that actually makes some positive recommendations, I'll be all over it.  For now, I'm content listening to Nineties Alternative, Moses Leroy(www.mosesleroy.com) and Request-a-Song.

Very good points, Over13.  It's true; I do just go to iTunes when I know what I'm looking for (although I'm not much into discovering new music all the time, anyway.  I guess I just write it instead).  CD Baby, a popular indie CD store, has a neat system of suggesting similar bands you might like, since it's all about people looking for new music to listen to.

Anyone else have any thoughts about music online?

It would be nice if more people would register.  I'm sick of belittling only Derwood.

Yeah, it would.  Although I'm not sure if other people want to be belittled either. :? Smiley

Derwood seems to enjoy it.  If he had any friends, I'd suggest he invite them to join the forum.

If he had any friends.

It seems that this topic has been stagnating for a while, which seems a shame because it is a good one. I use the iTunes Music Store, and I have to admit that it is not the ideal way to find new music. However, I did find a couple good artists through it that I wouldn't have otherwise. One example would be Ryuichi Sakamoto, who is quite excellent if you like classical music. But since I am a Mac user, I have been using the Music Store since... I don't know, April or something. You have to admire Apple for creating the ultimate: a music store where there is absolutely no human interaction. Speaking as a timid person, that's wonderful.

I don't buy music. I just use Windows Media Player to find songs and download them off the internet, or I get them in StepMania format (which still contains the music file).

Are you saying I don't have friends?  I've mentioned this website to some of my friends at school.

Welcome to the forum, Doug.  I have a Mac too, so I've been using the iTunes store since April as well.  The best part about the iTunes store to me is its ease of use and convenience.  The way they bill you for purchases is excellent.

You might want to consider http://mp3.com.au/ which has a good amount of free music. (I suggest wishful thinking, Steklovata, and DRAW THE LINE if you go there.)

Thanks for the suggestion.  Maybe some of the forum folks will check it out.  I know I will.

You have a mac? This is like some sort of wonderful dream! You are now the coolest person I've ever seen. Actually, you were before, but now you're even more so!

So, what kind do you have?
