...Lets try to answer this, one of Life's Great Mysteries. Can anyone offer any interpretations of any David Bowie song? or is it all just nonsense?  Cheesy I've got this idea that ashes to ashes is about drugs (I'm stuck with a valuable friend/my mother said to get things done, you better not mess with major Tom etc.). Anyone else have any ideas?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have a hunch that "Fame" is about... fame.

"Let's Dance" is probably about dancing (at least on the surface), but perhaps it has more sinister undertones.

"Space Oddity" is about isolation and being lost in space.

okay, those are the straightforward ones. what about, say, Life on Mars, or Drive-in Saturday. I understand the bit in LOM about the girl, but whats that big tangant about mickey mouse and my mother, my dog and clowns  about? Don't get me wrong, i love his music, it's just that his lyrics are, for the most part, more than a little cryptic.

I've actually never heard those songs.  I'm not really big into David Bowie, although I'm a big fan of David Bowie's stuff that I have heard.  Maybe I'll get into his stuff next.  If you hear me bellowing in a raspy, nasaly voice sometime in the future, then you'll know it's happened.

you should definately get the double CD best of. There's bound to be quite a few tracks you like. Acctually don't, or pretty soon you'll b only taking requests about space. Life on Mars is a beautiful, beautiful song.
